Emma Hodgson - Associate, Employment

I first joined the Employment Group as a fourth seat trainee and soon knew that I wanted to stay in that area on qualification. Since then, and throughout my seven and a half years here, no two days have been quite the same.

My work is incredibly varied and my clients range from established Yorkshire-based SMEs to large international organisations. Everybody in the team is expected to gain experience in a wide range of contentious and non-contentious work, which reinforces networks across the divisions and also supports our development as employment specialists.  Because of the firm's strong client base, there are also excellent secondment opportunities and I have been fortunate enough to spend 12 months on secondment at two major PLCs.  I believe I have benefited both personally and professionally from these secondments and they have undoubtedly made me a more rounded lawyer.

There's a strong focus on continual business development - it's seen as something that everyone can contribute to. I really like this inclusive approach and there is a clear emphasis on providing relevant training to help develop our personal and professional skills to support this. The firm has an established Learning & Development programme which is complemented by the work of the Professional Support Lawyers across the firm who keep everyone informed and ahead of developments with regular training sessions.

There's a one- firm ethos but no one ignores the fact that we all have different strengths and talents. This engenders respect for others across Addleshaw Goddard and creates a wealth of resource and expertise.
