We want clients to enjoy working with us and we want to take pleasure in working with them and each other.
Nancy Walmsley - Associate, Projects
As a firm we want to be well known for being the brightest and best lawyers, but we also pride ourselves on our reputation as individuals who our clients enjoy working with. After all, we are a people business and the right 'chemistry' in a team can often make all the difference.
I advise the client at the bidding phase of the project when they are in competition with other consortia to be awarded preferred bidder status. This process can be quite lengthy, as the procuring authority (e.g. a local authority, NHS Trust, MoD etc) must comply with the EC procurement rules to ensure fair competition in the awarding of such contracts. If our client is successful, I then negotiate the final aspects of the main contract, subcontracts and funding documents necessary for raising the finance. Throughout the process I'm also co-ordinating the involvement of colleagues in the employment, pensions, banking, tax and construction departments to ensure that the client's response is as comprehensive as possible.
On projects of this size, length and complexity, getting close to our clients and integrating ourselves in their team is especially important, the more we understand about how they operate, what their key goals are the more successful we can be in supporting them. It's doing the best job we can that keeps the work challenging and ultimately most enjoyable.
