Addleshaw Goddard has advised US-based Openwave Systems Inc. on its £46.6million acquisition of Magic4, the world-leader in seamless mobile messaging technology. US law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom also acted for Openwave, the leading provider of open-standards software products and services for the communications industry.

The deal is set to provide manufacturers with the assurances they need to invest in new handsets designed to enable new rich-data services.

Cheshire-based Magic4 was founded in 2000, with backing from 3i Group plc and Philips Venture Capital Fund BV and has 130 employees.

Corporate Finance partner Paul Devitt led the Addleshaw Goddard team which also included Tax Partner Ed Jenkins and Corporate Finance Associate George Maynard.

Magic4 was advised by Ernst & Young and Eversheds.
